Colter Wall Essentials - Like the cowboy poets of old, Saskatchewan’s Colter Wall has a natural gift for capturing the lonesome vastness and rural peculiarities of life on the Canadian prairies. Despite finding footing as a recording artist in his early 20s, Wall possesses the low-booming rumble of a singer three times his age, and his voice seems to hold all the grit and dust of the plains, giving songs like the doomy and dark “Sleeping on the Blacktop,” off his 2015 debut EP, hair-raising immediacy. With easy strumming gaits and the occasional yodel (in the spotlight on “Cowpoke”), Wall injects brand-new mythologies into the stories of his homeland.
