Compton-born Steve Lacy began playing guitar when he was in high school, and his musical career fully flowered when he joined the funk-vibe collective The Internet in 2013, playing guitar and producing some songs for their GRAMMYⓇ-nominated album <I>Ego Death</I>, released in 2015. In his solo work and on his collaborations with the likes of Vampire Weekend and Kali Uchis, Lacy updates the funk ideals sketched out by Sly & the Family Stone and Prince for the laptop-studio age, blending a bedroom-pop vibe with sumptuous grooves and flinty riffs.
