One of the most productive presences on the French hip-hop scene, Mounir Ben Chettouh—better known as Hornet La Frappe—has never looked back since bursting onto the scene with his debut mixtape in 2014. He’s since carved out a reputation as a rapper who is by no means afraid to take risks. His songbook has veered over the years from hard-hitting and confrontational (“Gramme 2 peuf”, “Je pense à toi”) to the uptempo likes of his Ninho collaboration “Sheitana”—and he’s entered more self-reflective territory with his DA Uzi hook-up, “Des années”.

Soso Maness cemented his reputation as one of Marseille’s finest rappers when his “Ça fait zumba cafew” line on 13 Organisé’s 2020 single “Bande organisée” helped him stand out amidst an all-star cast. But don’t construe the French-Algerian MC as a party rapper based on that electro-tinged summer hit. On the ominous “Zumba Cafew”, he subverts expectations with a gritty story from his past. Maness frequently explores these two lanes, depicting street life on “Les derniers marioles” while reminding his fans to enjoy life on “So Maness”.
