German rocker Doro made her name fronting fantasy-metal specialists Warlock before going solo in 1989. A pair of albums co-produced by Gene Simmons (Kiss) stiffed, but constant touring, particularly in Europe—and albums crammed with shout-out rockers—established her as a force in metal, influenced as much by Iron Maiden as The Runaways. Doro tackled electronic music by '98's Love Me in Black, but soon returned to the rock, earning the moniker “Metal Queen” before the 2012 release of her monster album Raise Your Fist.

These days, Ted Nugent may be best known for his conservative activism, but in his heyday, the Motor City Madman was first renowned for his cheeky innuendo and high-energy performances. Born in Detroit in 1948, The Nuge made his name as a legendary guitar shredder with The Amboy Dukes and Damn Yankees, as well as throughout his legendary solo career, selling more than 30 million records. An avid outdoorsman, he has written books, starred in multiple television series, runs a summer camp, and sells Nugent-branded items including hunting equipment and Nuge Java, his own brand of coffee.

While The Misfits shared the same morbid fascination with lowbrow culture as The Cramps, singer Glenn Danzig and bassist Jerry Only took a darker, less playful approach to their music. Their three-chord, Ramones-influenced sound immediately aligned them with punk acts like The Damned and Black Flag, with whom they toured before breaking up in 1983. Danzig went on to enjoy solo stardom as a metal-goth hybrid, while Only soldiered with a rotating crew of new Misfits into the 21st century. The band also claimed one of the most recognizable logos in rock with their Crimson Ghost mascot.
