Fuerza Regida Essentials - Exhibiting explicitness and sincerity in their music that, at times, verges on empathy for narcos, the Southern California norteño quartet Fuerza Regida extols the virtues and inherent vices of the drug trade. With the thematic veracity of contemporary trap and the vintage inspiration of 1950s mariachi groups like Las Adelitas, singer Jesus Ortiz—often accompanied by a jaunty accordion, pumping tuba, and hectoring horns—tends to focus his attention on those individuals who toil amid the hustle, be they working in the fields or in the streets. Immersive and unapologetic originals like “30 Kilos” and “Adicto” capture this uncompromising ethos, while their Pisteando Con La Regida covers series pays faithful homage to their corridos predecessors.

Corridos al Cien - Bold, expressive, and dramatic, the corrido is one of the most robust traditions in Mexican music. These heartrending ballads—the hits of today with some classics sprinkled in—run the gamut from poetic declarations of love to detailed crime stories. We regularly refresh this playlist. If you like a song, add it to your library.

#OnRepeat - Hip-hop and R&B offer some of the most fluid, dynamic sounds today, true barometers for where the culture is at and where it’s going. This week, headlining #OnRepeat—a playlist chock-full of the hottest new songs we can’t seem to stop playing—is Long Beach native Ray Vaughn’s “Hoe Era,” another shot in a presently unfolding war of words between Joey Bada$$ and a slew of West Coast MCs. TDE signee Vaughn seems to have taken exceptional offense to Bada$$’s recent Red Bull Spiral freestyle where the Brooklyn-born MC raps, “Shouldn’t give you n****s the time of day/But fuck it, shine a light on ’em, I’m a light Ray/Now how can I say this all in a nice way/If you need the attention, tell Top he gotta pay.” To which Vaughn replied with three fiery verses. Listen to “Hoe Era” on the #OnRepeat playlist, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
