Shaggy's voice sparks instant recognition: It's a unique croak, emerging from the back of the throat, that seems to defy the laws of harmony without ever losing the melody. Since debuting in the early '90s, he's set that singular voice to roots reggae, smooth soul and EDM with tunes that showcase his romantic outlook and unmatched pop instincts. On "It Wasn't Me", it sounds mischievous, pleading innocence over lurking horns and a perky breakbeat; on "Boombastic", it's full of confidence, rhyming tight patois bars over pummelling dancehall.
