Orchestral-rock giants ELO often looked back to get a little help from friends across the pop spectrum. Leader Jeff Lynne learned from The Beatles' expansive production techniques and timeless melodies built for mass sing-alongs. But his roller-coaster tunes and finely honed arrangements take hints from Peter & Gordon's sweet nostalgic ballads, Wizzard's glam-rock stomp, and The Eagles' harmony-drenched country-rock balladry.

Jeff Buckley's voice was a truly special gift. How else could a musician with just one studio album to his name yield no fewer than 10 posthumous releases of compilations and live recordings? 1994's Grace was a songwriting masterclass, showcasing Buckley's powerhouse vocals and lyrical romanticism. Unfortunately, while the record is widely acclaimed, Buckley's talent was taken far too soon when he drowned in 1997 at age 30—while working on what would have been his sophomore LP, My Sweetheart the Drunk.
