Apple Music Student Discount

May 20, 2024

Some music streaming services offer several more pocket-friendly options, and Apple Music has one for students. Being a student can be a long, financially tough struggle - and because of that, getting access to services at a discounted rate can make the whole process a little less difficult.

What is the Apple Music Student Discount?

The Apple Music student discount is for anyone who is in full-time education. They still get access to the full Apple Music catalog but get a significant discount on the standard subscription price.

What does the Apple Music Student Discount include?

The $5.99 per month Apple Music student subscription includes the following:

  • Access to Apple Music’s massive music library - the same access you get with an Individual full-priced plan
  • Limited time access to Apple TV+
  • Discounted price for 48 months or until you complete your degree - whichever is sooner.

Who can get the Apple Music student plan?

To qualify for the discounted Apple Music student plan, you must be studying one of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Postgraduate degree
  • Any Higher Education course at college or university that could be an equivalent

You’ll also need to have a UNiDAYS account to verify your student status.

If you don’t already have an Apple Music subscription, here is what you’ll need to do to get your Apple Music student subscription.

  • Open either the iTunes or Apple Music app
  • Click on For You or Listen Now
  • Click or tap on Trial Offer
  • Select the Student option, and then click or tap Verify Eligibility
  • From there, you will be taken to the UNiDAYS website. Once there, you will need to follow the instructions to verify your student status. Once the verification is complete, you’ll be returned to either the iTunes app or the Apple Music app - depending on which one you were using.
  • With the verification complete, you’ll need to sign in with your Apple ID and password - or create one.
  • Once you have done that, you’ll be taken to add your payment method and confirm billing information.
  • Then click or tap join.

If there are any issues with the verification, you’ll need to contact the support at UNiDAYS.

How do you access Apple TV+ as a student?

The fine print states that Apple TV+ isn’t available for all regions and countries, so it is best to check the latest list for what is available in your country or region: Apple Media Availability.

It is super simple for those who already know they should be able to access Apple TV+. Once you set up your Apple Music student subscription, you log in to the Apple TV+ app or go to the website, and all the content will be there, ready for you. Keep in mind that access to Apple TV+ is only for a limited time, so make the most of it while it is available to you.

How do you reverify your student status for Apple Music?

Every year, to be able to keep your Apple Music student discount, you will need to reverify that you are still in education.

There are a couple of ways to reverify your student status:

Through your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch:

  • Go to the Settings on your device
  • Tap subscriptions
  • Tap Verify your student status
  • You’ll be taken to the UNiDAYS website
  • Complete the verification process
  • When verification is successful, you’ll be taken back to Apple Music, and your Apple Music student subscription will be continued unchanged.

Through iTunes for Windows or the Apple Music app:

You may see a message prompting you to reverify your student status.

  • Click or tap on Verify Eligibility.
  • When the Go to website message appears, click or tap it
  • You’ll be taken to the institution's website, and once that verification is complete, you will go back to Apple Music and see a confirmation screen there.

How can I cancel an Apple Music student subscription?

To cancel your Apple Music student subscription because you are no longer on a course when the prompt to reverify your student status appears, you’ll need to click ‘I’m Not Longer a Student”.

Or, when your student subscription comes to an end naturally after the 48 months, you will be automatically switched to an Apple Music Individual subscription.

How much can you save with an Apple Music student subscription?

A standard Individual subscription costs $10.99 a month, and a Family subscription is $16.99 per month. The Apple Music Student subscription has everything that the Individual plan has but for $5 less per month.

Are there other music streaming platforms with a student discount?

Yes! There are plenty of options for students who want to make the most of a streaming service at a discounted rate.

  • Spotify Student Discount is a highly popular option at the same price as Apple Music. In the bundle, you also get ad-supported Hulu plus one month free.
  • Amazon Music Unlimited Student is $5.99 with HD listening.
  • Deezer Student Premium is $5.99 a month for students 18-25.

How do you change from an Individual Plan to a Student Plan on Apple Music?

You can change your subscription type on a MAC by going to Settings, tapping Subscriptions, and then clicking or tapping on the subscription name you want to move to. You’ll follow the same verification instructions as before through UNiDAYS or your institution.

Or you can do it via iTunes on a Windows PC, head to iTunes, go to Account, then click View My Account. Head to Settings, click Subscription and click Manage. Click on Edit and select a different subscription.

Transferring your music on a budget is possible, too - let’s say you’re on Spotify but want to head to Apple Music; you can use FreeYourMusic to transfer your first 100 songs for free.
