How to Cancel Spotify Premium (Every Device, 2026)

Quick answer: You cannot cancel Spotify Premium inside the app. Go to spotify.com/account in a browser, open Subscription, click Change or Cancel, then Cancel Premium. If you signed up through Apple or Google, you cancel through them instead. Either way you keep Premium until the end of the billing period you have already paid for, then drop to the free tier.
Your playlists, saved albums, and liked songs all stay. You do not lose your library by canceling.
Moving to another service? Transfer your playlists with Free Your Music before you cancel, so nothing gets stranded.
Before you cancel
Two things worth doing first:
- Check what you lose. Offline downloads stop working immediately once Premium ends, and any tracks you downloaded become unplayable. Your library stays, the downloads do not.
- Move anything you want to keep elsewhere. If you are switching services rather than just going free, transfer first while your account is still active.
We covered the full pre-cancellation checklist in things to do before canceling your Spotify account.
How to cancel Spotify Premium on desktop or Android
You cannot cancel from inside the Spotify app. On both desktop and Android, this has to happen in a browser.
- Open spotify.com in your browser and log in.

- Click Profile in the top right corner.
- Select Account to open your Account Overview.
- In the left-hand menu, click Subscription.

- Click the green Change or Cancel button.
- Select Cancel Premium.
- Confirm with Yes, cancel.

Your account reverts to the free plan at the end of the current billing cycle. Until then, Premium keeps working.
How to cancel if you subscribed through Apple
If you signed up through the App Store, Spotify cannot cancel it for you. Apple handles the billing, so you cancel on your device.
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Spotify from the list.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
- Confirm.

If Spotify is not listed there, you did not subscribe through Apple. Use the browser method above.

How to cancel if you subscribed through Google Play
Same principle. If you subscribed via the Play Store, Google handles the billing.
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions.
- Tap Subscriptions and select Spotify.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
You can also do this at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions in a browser.
How to cancel a bundled or third-party subscription
Spotify Premium sometimes arrives bundled with something else, and those cannot be canceled through Spotify at all.
- Mobile carrier bundles. Contact your carrier or manage it in their app.
- Hulu or other package deals. Cancel through whoever bills you.
- PayPal as the payment method. You still cancel in Spotify, but check PayPal afterwards to confirm the recurring payment agreement has stopped.
- Gift cards or prepaid codes. These simply expire. There is nothing to cancel and you will not be charged.
If you are unsure who bills you, open your Spotify account page. The Subscription section names the billing partner.
What happens after you cancel
- You keep Premium until the end of the period you paid for. Cancelling on day 3 of a monthly cycle does not cut you off on day 3.
- Your account switches to Spotify Free. Ads return, skips become limited, and audio quality drops.
- Your library is untouched. Playlists, liked songs, saved albums, and followed artists all remain.
- Downloads stop working. Offline files become unplayable as soon as Premium lapses.
- Family and Duo members lose access too, if you are the plan owner.
- You can resubscribe any time and pick up where you left off.
Spotify Premium prices in 2026
What you stop paying, at current US rates:
| Plan | Price |
|---|---|
| Individual | $12.99/month |
| Duo | $18.99/month |
| Family | $21.99/month |
| Student | $6.99/month |
Spotify raised all four tiers in January 2026, taking effect on most billing cycles from February. Individual went from $11.99, Duo from $16.99, Family from $19.99, and Student from $5.99.
All plans are month to month, so you can cancel at any point without a fee or minimum term. Full breakdown in how much is Spotify Premium.
Still deciding? Compare Spotify Free vs Premium first.
Canceling during a free trial
Cancel before the trial ends and you are not charged. You keep Premium features for the remainder of the trial period rather than losing them at the moment you cancel, so there is no reason to leave it until the last day.
Set a reminder for a couple of days before the renewal date. Trials convert automatically.
What if you just stop paying?
If a payment fails, Spotify downgrades the account to the free tier and stops billing. You will not be charged again unless you resubscribe.
It works, but it is worse than canceling properly. You may get retry attempts and payment failure emails first, and if the card is still valid the charge may go through anyway. Cancel deliberately if you want certainty.
Deleting your Spotify account entirely
Canceling Premium and deleting your account are different things. Canceling leaves your account and library intact on the free tier. Deleting removes everything permanently, including every playlist, and cannot be undone.
If that is what you want, follow the full process in how to delete your Spotify account.
Do not lose your music
Canceling because you are moving to another service? Transfer your playlists first.
Free Your Music moves your playlists, albums, and liked songs to Apple Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, Amazon Music, and more, keeping track order intact. Do it while your Spotify account is still active.
FAQs about canceling Spotify Premium
How do I cancel Spotify Premium?
Log in at spotify.com/account, open Subscription, click Change or Cancel, then Cancel Premium. Your plan ends at the close of the current billing cycle.
Can I cancel Spotify in the app?
No. Spotify does not allow cancellation inside the mobile or desktop app. Use a browser, or cancel through Apple or Google if that is who bills you.
How do I cancel Spotify Premium on iPhone?
Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, select Spotify, and tap Cancel Subscription. This only applies if you subscribed through the App Store.
Will I lose my playlists if I cancel?
No. Playlists, liked songs, and saved albums stay in your library on the free tier. You only lose them if you delete the account itself.
Do I get a refund when I cancel?
Spotify does not usually refund partial months. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Consumer protection rules in the UK and EU may give you a cooling-off period on a recent purchase, so contact Spotify support if you have just been charged.
What happens to my downloaded songs?
They stop playing when Premium ends. Offline downloads require an active subscription.
Can I cancel if I have lost access to my account?
You will need to recover the account through Spotify support first. If that is not possible, canceling the payment method with your bank or with Apple or Google will end the billing.
What happens to my Family plan members?
If you own the plan, everyone on it loses Premium when your subscription ends. Individual members can leave a Family plan without ending it for everyone else.
