You can pause a transfer at any time and resume it later. Your progress is saved, so nothing that already moved is lost. To stop a transfer for good, cancel it or remove it.
How do I pause or resume a transfer?
Pause a transfer
- Open the transfer in FreeYourMusic.
- Tap "Pause" on the status card, or open the transfer options and choose "Pause".
- The transfer shows "PAUSED". Nothing more is moved or synced until you resume it.
To continue, open the same transfer and tap "Resume". It goes on from where it stopped.
Several transfers at once? On "Your Transfers", select the transfers you want and use "Pause", "Resume", "Retry" or "Delete" for all of them together.
How do I retry songs that failed?
Open the transfer, open its options and choose "Retry transfer failed tracks". FreeYourMusic tries the failed songs again. The option is greyed out when nothing failed.
How do I cancel a transfer for good?
- Cancel: while a transfer is running, the transfer may show a "STOP FOR GOOD" card. Tap "Cancel" there. The songs that already moved stay on the new service.
- Remove the transfer: open the transfer options and choose "Remove the transfer". The app confirms: "It will stop sync for this collection. Your playlists stay the same."
Can I close the app during a transfer?
For the smoothest transfer, keep FreeYourMusic open until the transfer finishes. If you close it, your progress is kept: open the app again and the transfer goes on from where it was.
- On a computer: closing the window does not quit FreeYourMusic. It keeps running in the background, and you can bring it back from its icon in the menu bar or system tray ("Show App"). To quit fully, choose "Quit" there.
- On a phone or tablet: keep FreeYourMusic open on screen while a large transfer runs. Phones can pause apps in the background to save battery.
What if the app crashes mid-transfer?
Your playlists and transfers are saved, so nothing is lost. After a crash the app shows a screen that says the app had to stop, with these notes: "The transfer that was running will pick up where it stopped." and "A diagnostic report is already on its way to our team."
Recover after a crash
- Tap "Restart FreeYourMusic".
- Open your transfer. It continues from where it stopped.
- If you want to help us fix it, tap "Tell us what happened" and describe the last few steps. You can also copy the issue ID and send it to support.
Frequently asked questions
My transfer seems stuck. What should I do?
Open the transfer and look for a message at the top, such as "Log in to" a service. Fix what it asks. If there is none, pause and resume the transfer. If it still does not move, see a transfer is stuck, failed, or asks for action.
Does pausing lose my progress?
No. Songs that already moved stay on the new service, and the transfer continues from where it stopped when you resume.
Why does the transfer keep running after I closed the window?
On a computer, closing the window keeps FreeYourMusic running in the background. Pause the transfer if you want it to stop, or quit the app from its menu bar or tray icon.
Does a paused transfer still sync?
No. A paused transfer is not synced until you resume it.
