Auto-sync keeps a playlist you transferred up to date. When you add, remove or reorder songs in the source playlist, FreeYourMusic makes the same changes in the copy on the other service. Auto-sync is part of Premium.
Does auto-sync go both ways?
No. Auto-sync goes one way only: from the service you transferred from (the source) to the service you transferred to (the destination). FreeYourMusic never changes your source playlist.
Songs you add by hand to the destination playlist stay there. Auto-sync shows them as "Manually added" and does not remove them.
What does a sync change?
Each sync compares the source playlist with the destination playlist and works through the differences in this order:
- Playlists: it creates or prepares the destination playlist.
- Removals: songs you removed from the source are removed from the destination, where that service allows it. They show as "Deleted".
- New songs: songs you added to the source are matched and added to the destination.
- Order: songs are moved so the destination follows the order of the source, where that service allows it.
Some services do not let apps remove songs from a playlist. Then the transfer tells you that the service "does not support removing tracks automatically" and offers "Download list of songs", so you can remove those songs yourself in that service.
How do I turn auto-sync on?
Auto-sync needs Premium. Without it, the transfer details show "Auto-sync is disabled" with an "Enable" button, which takes you to the Premium plans.
Turn on auto-sync for a transfer
- Get Premium. See the plans.
- Open the transfer in FreeYourMusic.
- If the transfer shows "Auto-sync is disabled", tap "Enable".
- When auto-sync is on, the transfer shows "LAST SYNCED" with the time of the last sync.
How do I sync right now?
Open the transfer and tap "Sync. now" under "LAST SYNCED". FreeYourMusic checks the source playlist straight away and copies any changes.
If you tap it again a moment later, the app may ask you to wait a few minutes before the next manual sync.
How do I stop syncing a playlist?
- Pause the transfer to stop it for a while. A paused transfer is not synced until you resume it. See pause, resume and cancel.
- Remove the transfer to stop for good: open the transfer, open its options and choose "Remove the transfer". The app confirms: "It will stop sync for this collection. Your playlists stay the same."
What happens when Premium ends?
When Premium ends, auto-sync stops sending changes to the destination. Playlists you already transferred stay exactly as they are on both services, and your transfer history stays in the app.
Renew Premium to start syncing again. The changes you made in the source in the meantime are then copied over.
Frequently asked questions
Is auto-sync free?
No. Auto-sync is part of Premium. A free transfer copies a playlist once.
If I add a song on the new service, will it appear on the old one?
No. Auto-sync goes one way, from the source to the destination. Songs you add by hand to the destination stay there and show as "Manually added".
I deleted a song in the destination playlist. Will sync add it back?
No. FreeYourMusic marks it "Deleted at target" and leaves it out.
Why did sync stop after my subscription ended?
Auto-sync is a Premium feature. When Premium ends, changes are no longer copied to the destination. Your playlists stay as they are. Renew Premium to sync again.
