As the first month of 2025 is coming to a close, it’s time to take a look at the songs that the world was enjoying. We will include playlists from a couple of music streaming platforms and good old data, too.

What Was Released in January 2025?

January was a big, big month, so if that sets the tone for the rest of 2025, we’re going to have a brilliant year. A couple of recent album releases are Hurry Up Tomorrow from The Weeknd, NSFW from Tyga, and Central Cee with Can’t Rush Greatness.

We’ve got a lot more singles, and a quick look at the Top New Songs for January 2025 on Spotify sees a lot of ROSÉ, currently holding three spots in the top ten with hits like 3 am, number one girl and APT. IT girl by JADE is holding the number one spot.

Bad Bunny’s Year

Sure, the album only dropped on the 5th of January 2025, but it has already made a monumental splash. Critics call it a magnum opus; fans say it is moving and life-changing. DtMF has made big waves in terms of streams, too, right now - as of writing, it holds the top spot on Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, Shazam and YouTube. The country with the most streams is Spain.

One of the Free Your Music team has been enjoying the album since it came out, and it even made their no-skip list!

KWORB compiles streaming data from across the music streaming landscape, and the top ten reflects the latter weeks of 2024 in most cases.

Bad Bunny sat in the top spot, followed by ROSÉ, Billie Eilish, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and Sabrina Carpenter, for the week ending 24th Jan.

Almost all of the biggest streamed artists had an exceptional 2024, Sabrina Carpenter notably, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars swept the charts with Die With A Smile, and Billie Eilish saw incredible streams of Hit Me Hard And Soft. Rap beef with Kendrick and Drake gave us some of the best singles, and then Kendrick’s smash hit album of 2024.

Grass is Greener with Doechii

An artist that has TikTok in a chokehold right now is Doechii. Although she has been around for a while, her unique style caused what can only be described as an avalanche of new listeners and fans. Reddit Picks

Perhaps one of the best things about Reddit, is the amount of people who listen to music not in the top 100 anywhere right now. So, instead of the streaming data and the sales data we will look at in a moment, here are some tracks that people have on repeat this January.

Heading straight to the Popheads subreddit because they’re doing a great new Monthly On Repeat Thread, here are some of the most played artists in January.

IT girl by JADE is making a lot of the most played lists, EoO, TURiSTA, WELTiTA and VOY A LLeVARTE PA PR by Bad Bunny, and SZA makes a couple of lists too.

The EDM forums have a mix of Swedish House Mafia, Rufus du Sol, and Rebellion get a mention too.

January on Spotify Pie

Digging into the Spotify data, using Spotify Pie, we can take a look at what listeners have had on repeat throughout January 2025.

Teddy Swims is seeing huge daily streams with his Bad Dreams, closely followed by Gracie Abrams and That’s so True. And Bad Bunny comes in third with DtMF. Spotify Pie is updated daily, so is a great place to see what music is trending on any given day.

Billboard Hot 100

Die with A Smile is enjoying another week at peak position, making it 23 weeks on the charts. And, as of right now it has knocked DtMF by Bad Bunny off the top spot. The rest of the Hot 100 looks like this:

TikTok Trending Music

Doechii is doing big numbers on TikTok right now, her track Denial Is A River is a strong favorite for lipsyning. Lola Young’s song Messy became part of the Teamwork trend, which saw smaller accounts gather mass followings in a short period of time. La La La by Naughty Boy & Sam Smith is back again, securing a spot high in the charts. Hozier’s Too Sweet has disappeared, but Do I Wanna Know? - Live At The BBC is massively popular.

And, Bruno Mars, while Die With A Smile is a chart favorite Fat Juicy and Wet is becoming one of the most used sounds at the end of January.
