A few songs may not make it to your new service, usually because that service does not have them. You can see them with the "Missing" filter, retry the ones that failed, and export the list to an Excel file.
Why do songs go missing?
- The new service does not have the song, or not in your country.
- No match was good enough. The title or artist differ too much. How matching works.
- The service refused to add it, often a temporary error. These show "Adding failed".
How do I see the missing songs?
Find the songs that did not transfer
- Open the transfer in FreeYourMusic.
- Open the song filter above the list.
- Choose "Missing" for songs that could not be matched, or "Failed" for songs where something went wrong at the music service.
Try again first
- Failed songs: open the transfer options and choose "Retry transfer failed tracks". Many of these work on the second try.
- Songs that were not matched: tap the song and search for it yourself with Rematch. A different spelling or a shorter search often finds it.
How do I export the missing songs?
Export missing songs to an Excel file
- Open the transfer in FreeYourMusic.
- Open the transfer options.
- Choose "Export missing songs".
- Pick where to save the file.
The option is greyed out when nothing is missing or failed in that transfer.
What is in the file?
The export is an Excel file (XLSX). It has one row per song that was not matched or failed to add, with the song title, the artist and the album, in the order of your source playlist. FreeYourMusic does not make a CSV file.
Open the file in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets or any spreadsheet app. You can use it as a checklist to add songs by hand, or keep it as a record.
Can I import the list again later?
Yes. FreeYourMusic can read an Excel file as a source with File Backup. Choose File Backup as the service you move from, pick the file, match the columns to Title, Artist and Album, and transfer the songs to any service. That is useful when a song arrives on the new service later.
Frequently asked questions
Can I export the missing songs as CSV?
No. The export is an Excel file (XLSX). Any spreadsheet app can open it and save it as CSV if you need that.
Why is "Export missing songs" greyed out?
Because nothing in that transfer is missing or failed. Every song made it.
Do missing songs count toward the free limit?
No. Only songs that were really added to the new service count.
Will a missing song be added later on its own?
Not by itself. Use "Retry transfer failed tracks" for failed songs, or Rematch to search again for a song that was not matched.
