Can using FreeYourMusic get my music account banned?

On this page4 sections ▾

We know of no music account that was banned because of FreeYourMusic. The app uses each service's official sign-in and API where one exists, with the permissions you approve. We cannot speak for the music services, so we make no promises on their behalf.

How does FreeYourMusic work with my account?

  • Official sign-in and API where one exists. For most services you sign in on the service's own page and approve what FreeYourMusic may do. The app then uses the service's official API, the way the service intends apps to use it.
  • Your own sign-in for the rest. A few services have no official API for apps like ours. There, the app signs in as you, on the service's own sign-in page, and works with your library the way you would.
  • It adds, it does not remove. FreeYourMusic copies your music to the new service. It does not delete anything from the service you are leaving.

Does FreeYourMusic respect the limits of each service?

Yes. Music services limit how many requests an app may send in a short time. When a service asks FreeYourMusic to slow down, the app waits for as long as the service asks and then tries again. That is why a large transfer can take a while.

What if a service warns me about unusual activity?

If a music service flags your account

  1. Do what the service asks, for example confirm your identity or change your password, on the service itself.
  2. Wait a little before you start another transfer.
  3. In FreeYourMusic, sign in to the service again if the app asks you to.
  4. Tell us what happened at support@freeyourmusic.com, with the name of the service and the message you saw.
