Using FreeYourMusic with Apple Music

On this page8 sections ▾

FreeYourMusic can move playlists, liked songs and albums to and from Apple Music. You need an active Apple Music subscription, and you sign in on Apple's own page.

What do I need?

An Apple Account with an active Apple Music subscription. Without a subscription, Apple does not let FreeYourMusic work with your library, and the app shows: "It seems you may not have an active Apple Music subscription, which is required for some functionalities."

How do I connect Apple Music?

Connect Apple Music to FreeYourMusic

  1. Open FreeYourMusic and pick Apple Music as the service you move from or to.
  2. An Apple sign-in page opens. Sign in with the Apple Account that has your Apple Music subscription.
  3. Allow FreeYourMusic to access Apple Music. You are back in the app with Apple Music connected.

The sign-in works the same way on every device, through Apple's web page. FreeYourMusic never sees your Apple password. How signing in works.

Limits

  • Apple Music does not let apps remove songs from a playlist. If you keep a playlist in sync and a song leaves the original, it stays in the Apple Music copy. The app offers "Download list of songs" so you can remove those songs by hand.
  • Apple Music does not let apps change the order of songs in a playlist. If the order changes in the original, the Apple Music copy keeps its old order.
  • Apple Music lets apps look songs up by their ISRC, a code that identifies a recording, so matches into Apple Music are more exact. How matching works.

Known issues

Songs do not show in the playlist yet. After the transfer finishes, restart the Music app (or iTunes). The app reminds you of this in the "Apple Music limitations" box.

How do I fix Apple Music sign-in problems?

  • "It seems you may not have an active Apple Music subscription". Check your subscription in your Apple Account settings. If you have one, tap "RETRY".
  • You signed in with a different Apple Account. Make sure you use the Apple Account that pays for the subscription. Choose "Unlink account" for the wrong one in the app, then connect again.
  • The Apple sign-in page does not finish. Close it, check your internet connection and try again.

More fixes are in I cannot sign in to a music service.

Does FreeYourMusic show Apple Music stats?

Yes. FreeYourMusic Stats reads your recently played songs, your top tracks and artists and your library from your Apple Music account. Apple Music reports the order of your plays, not the times, so the stats show the order only.
