Troubleshooting

I cannot sign in to a music service

On this page5 sections ▾

Most sign-in problems go away after a fresh attempt: close the sign-in screen, check that your music subscription is active, and connect the service again. If that does not help, find the message you see below and follow its fix.

Quick checks first

Try these before anything else

  1. Check that you can sign in to the music service on its own website or app, with the same account.
  2. Check that your subscription to the service is active. Some services need a paid plan for some features.
  3. Check that the service is available in the country you are in right now.
  4. On a computer, look for a second window. FreeYourMusic opens the sign-in page in its own window, and it can hide behind the main one.
  5. Turn off pop-up blockers or VPN extensions that could block the sign-in page.
  6. Close the sign-in screen and connect the service again.

How you sign in depends on the service

FreeYourMusic uses the official sign-in of each service where one exists. The fix depends on the type of sign-in.

Services with a "Log in" page from the service

Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer and most other services show their own sign-in page. You sign in there, then the service asks you to allow FreeYourMusic to read and change your library. Approve every permission on that page. If you skip one, the app cannot read or add music, and you have to sign in again.

YouTube Music, VK Music and JioSaavn

For these services you sign in on the service website inside the app. Finish the whole sign-in, until you see your library on the service page. The app then keeps the sign-in session, not your password.

Pandora

Pandora asks for your Pandora email and password. Check them on the Pandora website first. To see your playlists on Pandora, you need Pandora Premium.

What the error messages mean

"We could not connect your account. Please try again."

The sign-in did not finish. Close the sign-in screen and connect the service again. On a computer, keep the login window open until it closes by itself.

"There were some issues authenticating your account, please try again later."

The music service did not answer as expected. Wait a few minutes and try again. If it keeps happening, check the status page and then contact us.

"... is not available in your country"

The service does not work in the country you are in. Sign in when you are in a country where the service is available.

"Could not login to ..., please contact support"

Something blocks the sign-in that you cannot fix in the app. Write to support@freeyourmusic.com and tell us which service you tried.

"It seems you may not have an active Apple Music subscription"

Apple Music needs an active Apple Music subscription. Check your subscription in your Apple account. If you have one, tap "RETRY". After a transfer to Apple Music, restart the Music app (or iTunes) to see the new songs in your playlists.

"You need to accept YouTube Music TOS on music.youtube.com"

Your Google account has not used YouTube Music yet. Open music.youtube.com in your browser and create your first playlist there. This accepts the YouTube Music terms and sets up your YouTube Music channel. Then connect YouTube Music in the app again.

"We could not read your YouTube Music account."

Open music.youtube.com in your browser, check that you can see your library, and try again.

"Your phone does not have Google Play Services installed."

On Android, Google sign-in needs Google Play Services. Use a phone that has them, or connect the account in the desktop app.

Spotify asks you to sign in again

When Spotify reports that FreeYourMusic is missing a permission, the app asks you to sign in again. Sign in and approve every permission on the Spotify page.

"Do not close the login window" and "Log in again"

On a computer, the app shows "Look at the second window and log in there." Find that window and sign in. If you closed it, click "Log in again".

You were logged out of a service

Sign-ins expire from time to time, and a service can end them when you change your password. The app then shows "You've been logged out of ..." with "Tap to fix", and transfers that use the account show "LOGGED OUT". Tap the card and sign in again. Your transfers continue after that.

Frequently asked questions

Does FreeYourMusic see my music service password?

For most services, no. You sign in on the service page and the service gives FreeYourMusic permission to read and add music. Pandora is the exception: it asks for your Pandora email and password.

Do I need a paid subscription to sign in?

It depends on the service. Apple Music needs an active Apple Music subscription, and Pandora needs Pandora Premium to show playlists. Other services let you sign in with a free account.

Why do I have to sign in again after a while?

Music services end sign-in sessions from time to time, for example after a password change. Sign in again and your transfers continue.
