Using FreeYourMusic with Spotify

On this page7 sections ▾

FreeYourMusic can move playlists, liked songs, albums and artists to and from Spotify. You sign in on Spotify's own page, so FreeYourMusic never sees your Spotify password.

What do I need?

A Spotify account. A free Spotify account can sign in.

How do I connect Spotify?

Connect Spotify to FreeYourMusic

  1. Open FreeYourMusic and pick Spotify as the service you move from or to.
  2. A Spotify sign-in page opens. Sign in with your Spotify account.
  3. Spotify asks you to allow FreeYourMusic access. Agree, and you are back in the app with Spotify connected.

FreeYourMusic asks Spotify for permission to read and change your playlists, your saved music and the artists you follow, and to read your profile and email address. It needs these to read your library and rebuild it. How signing in works.

Limits

  • One Spotify playlist holds up to 10,000 songs. A longer playlist is split into more than one playlist on Spotify.
  • Playlists made by Spotify itself, such as its editorial playlists, do not show in the list of playlists you can pick. You can still move playlists you made and playlists by other people that you follow.
  • Spotify lets apps look songs up by their ISRC, a code that identifies a recording. This makes matches more exact when you move music to Spotify. How matching works.

How do I fix Spotify sign-in problems?

  • The app asks you to connect Spotify again. Spotify sometimes ends a session, or asks for permissions again. Sign in once more and the transfer can carry on.
  • The sign-in page does not open or does not come back to the app. Close the sign-in window, check your internet connection and try again.
  • You signed in with the wrong account. Choose "Unlink account" for it in the app, then connect Spotify again with the right one. Manage connected accounts.

More fixes are in I cannot sign in to a music service.

Does FreeYourMusic show Spotify stats?

Yes. FreeYourMusic Stats reads your recently played songs, your top tracks and artists, what is playing now and your library from your Spotify account.

Does FreeYourMusic work with a free Spotify account?

Yes. A free Spotify account can sign in to FreeYourMusic.

Does FreeYourMusic see my Spotify password?

No. You type your password on Spotify's own sign-in page. FreeYourMusic gets permission from Spotify, not your password.

Why can I not see Spotify's own playlists in the list?

Is there a limit to how many songs a Spotify playlist can hold?

Yes, 10,000 songs. FreeYourMusic splits a longer playlist into more than one Spotify playlist.
