The free limit: 300 songs, and what counts

On this page6 sections ▾

The free version of FreeYourMusic moves up to 300 songs, or 600 songs in total after a free email sign-up. The allowance is for life: it does not reset each month, and deleting a transfer does not give songs back.

How many songs can I move for free?

  • 300 songs with no sign-up and no card.
  • 600 songs in total after a free email sign-up. This is not 600 extra songs on top of the first 300: your total becomes 600.
  • No limit with Premium.

After the email sign-up you get an email with a passcode. Follow the steps in that email to add it to the app, and your allowance goes up.

What counts as a song?

Every song that FreeYourMusic adds to the service you are moving to counts once. It does not matter whether the song lands in a playlist or in your liked songs.

  • Counts: each song added to a playlist on the destination, and each song added to your liked songs there.
  • Does not count: songs that could not be matched or failed to add. Only songs that really arrive count.
  • Does not count: saving your library to a File Backup. Backups to an Excel file are free of the limit.

Albums and artists move with Premium only, so on the free version the limit is about songs.

Does deleting a transfer give my songs back?

No. The songs of a transfer you delete still count toward your free allowance. Deleting a transfer removes it from the app, but it does not undo the songs it already moved, so they stay in the total.

What happens when I reach the limit?

The transfer stops adding songs when your allowance runs out. The rest of the playlist is not lost: it waits in the transfer until you upgrade.

  • A screen titled "Free limit reached" tells you how many songs moved and how many are still waiting, for example "250 songs moved." and "50 are still waiting."
  • The transfer details show a box such as "50 tracks didn’t make it" with an "Unlock the rest" button.

How do I lift the limit?

Premium lifts the cap on this transfer and every one after it. When you upgrade, the songs that were waiting are moved, and you also get auto-sync, album transfers and artist transfers.

Finish a transfer that hit the free limit

  1. Open the transfer in FreeYourMusic.
  2. Tap "Unlock the rest" in the box that shows how many tracks did not make it, or "Finish the transfer" on the "Free limit reached" screen.
  3. Pick a plan and complete the purchase.
  4. Go back to the transfer. FreeYourMusic moves the songs that were waiting.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 300-song limit per month or per transfer?

Neither. It is one allowance for life, shared by all your transfers. Once 300 songs have moved (or 600 after the email sign-up), new songs need Premium.

Is the email bonus 600 extra songs?

No. After the free email sign-up your total allowance is 600 songs, which includes the first 300.

Do liked songs count toward the limit?

Yes. Every song added to the destination counts, whether it goes into a playlist or into your liked songs.

If I delete a transfer, can I move those songs again for free?

No. Songs from deleted transfers still count, because the allowance is for life.

Do songs that did not match count?

No. Only songs that were really added to the destination count. Songs marked "Not matched" or "Adding failed" do not use your allowance.
