What data FreeYourMusic stores, and why

On this page9 sections ▾

FreeYourMusic keeps what it needs to move your music and to know that you have Premium. It never stores audio, and for most services it never sees your password. You can delete all of it from the app.

Your purchase and your app

  • Your email address, if you bought Premium on the website or signed up with your email. We use it to send your passcode and messages about your purchase.
  • Your passcode and the purchase records from the App Store, Google Play or our payment provider, so Premium works on your devices.
  • A device identifier for each device you use, so your devices can be told apart.
  • A notification token, if you allow notifications, so the app can send you notifications.

Your connected music accounts

For each music account you connect, FreeYourMusic keeps the sign-in it needs to read and add music, and the details the service shares about the account, such as the account name, picture and country. Every sign-in saved on our servers is encrypted. How signing in works.

Your transfers

To run a transfer and keep it in sync, FreeYourMusic keeps the list of what you picked, how each song was matched, and the status of each transfer. Depending on your app version, this list is kept on your device, on our servers, or both.

Your stats, only if you turn them on

Stats is optional. Before it starts, the app asks for your consent and shows what it reads and keeps:

  • What we read: your playlists, liked songs and albums from the services you connect, and your play history only if you opt in.
  • What we store: "Aggregated counts and timestamps. Never audio, never your service password."
  • How long: "Raw history for 24 months, aggregates until you delete them."
  • Where it lives: "EU servers."

Your play history is read only if you opt in to it. You can turn history off or delete your stats data at any time in the Stats tab, under "Stats & sharing", with "Delete my stats data".

Anonymous music statistics

We combine playlist and listening activity from many people into anonymous statistics, for example how popular a track or an artist is. These statistics never show your own data, and we do not sell your personal data. The privacy policy explains this in full.

Analytics and crash reports

We use analytics and crash-reporting tools to improve the app. When the app hits an error, it sends a diagnostic report to our team, and the error screen shows an issue ID you can quote to support. See the privacy policy for the details.

What we never store

  • Audio. FreeYourMusic moves song information, not music files.
  • Your music service password, for every service that has its own sign-in page.
  • Your card details. The store or our payment provider handles your card.

How do I delete my data?

Open the Profile tab and use "Delete account". All your data is deleted from the app and our servers. Delete your account and data shows every step.
