Your first transfer takes three screens: the service you are leaving, the service you are moving to, and the playlists you want to move. You need an account on both services.
Before you start
- Install FreeYourMusic on your phone or computer. See How to install or update the app.
- Have the sign-in details for both music services at hand.
- The free version moves up to 300 songs, or 600 in total after a free email sign-up. Start with a small playlist to see how it goes.
Move your playlists
Your first transfer with FreeYourMusic
- Pick the source. Open FreeYourMusic. On "Step 1 of 3", the app asks "Where should we move your music from?". Choose the service you are leaving.
- Sign in to the source. Sign in on the service page that opens. On a computer, the sign-in page opens in a second window: look at the second window and log in there, and do not close it until you are done.
- Pick the destination. On "Step 2 of 3", choose the service you are moving to, and sign in to it the same way.
- Select playlists. On the "Select playlists" screen, tick the playlists and collections you want to move. Your playlists, your liked songs and the playlists you follow are listed in their own groups.
- Start the transfer. Tap "Begin transfer". The button shows how many items you picked.
- Watch it run. The transfer page lists every song with its status, such as "Matching", "Added" or "Not matched".
How many playlists can I move at once?
One transfer takes up to 200 playlists. If you pick more, the app tells you that is the most one transfer can take. Start those first, then start a second transfer for the rest.
Why are some playlists missing from the list?
Some playlists belong to the music service itself, for example the editorial playlists made by Spotify. They cannot be transferred, so the app leaves them out of the list or marks them "Copyrighted by Spotify, cannot be transferred". To keep the songs, add them to a playlist of your own on the old service first, then move that playlist.
What can and cannot be transferred lists everything that moves and everything that does not.
What if songs are missing?
Open the transfer and use the song filter. "Missing" shows the songs that could not be matched, and "Low Confidence Match" shows the matches the app is not sure about. You can fix any of them with Rematch, for free.
See Fix a wrong match with Rematch and Missing songs and export.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pick the same account as the source and the destination?
No. The app shows "You cannot select the same account as source and destination service". Choose another account or another service.
I closed the sign-in window by mistake. What now?
Choose "Log in again" and sign in once more. Keep the window open until the app shows that you are connected.
Will my old playlists be changed?
No. FreeYourMusic only reads the service you are leaving. Your old playlists stay as they are.
What happens when I reach the free limit?
The free version stops adding songs after 300 songs, or 600 in total after a free email sign-up. The songs that did not fit wait in the transfer, and Premium moves them. See Free limit and what counts as a song.
